James Wylie

Expert Compliance Lawyer

James Wylie is a nationally recognized authority on fair lending and consumer financial protection. Over the past two decades, he’s worked at the intersection of law, compliance, and public policy — helping to shape how lenders, housing agencies, and regulators define and enforce fairness in finance.

Before founding Wylie Law, James held senior roles at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), where he focused on equal credit opportunity, redlining enforcement, and consumer rights. Most recently, he served as Associate Director at the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), leading oversight of affordable housing, fair lending, and consumer protection initiatives across the U.S.

Today, James provides strategic legal counsel to banks, fintechs, and regulatory technology firms, helping them build cultures of compliance that go beyond box-checking. His deep experience in government and private practice gives him a unique perspective on how technology like HarmCheck can close compliance gaps before they turn into legal or reputational risks.

"Unfortunately, discriminatory communication still occurs and is a nightmare for any firm to deal with. HarmCheck provides an effective and modern solution to this compliance problem."  - James Wylie

What industry leaders are saying.

“HarmCheck matters because careless or intended messages can cause irreparable harm, legally, internally, reputationally, and to a company’s morale and leadership. Catching it before it goes out brings profound value to both enterprises and individuals involved.”
– Philip Brittan, CEO, CTO, VP Google

“The ability of Alphy’s HarmCheck technology to understand context and nuances in communication is the best I have ever seen. It’s not about policing people’s words but about preventing harm both for individuals and corporations.”
– Andy Brown, CTO, CEO, Fintech leader
